I currently reside in Louisville, but will forever be a Texan. I write about religion, human rights, politics and pop culture. I wrote a series of over 80 satirical news articles for Religion News Service called “The Literalist.” You can read the archives here. I’ve also written non-satirical commentary on faith and public life, including:

In addition to my opinion writing, I’ve been quoted by CBS News, the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, ThinkProgress, Houston Chronicle, New York Times Magazine, Sojourners and other outlets.

Leading up to the 2016 presidential election, I wrote the immigration chapter of Chalice Press’ “Progressive Christian Voter’s Guide.”

My photojournalism has appeared twice in ThinkProgress (here and here), as well as the Christian Post.

I spoke about my journey coming out as a gay Christian at the Louisville Courier Journal’s Storytellers event.

I hold a degree in international relations from American University and a master of divinity from Union Theological Seminary in New York City.
